HS Baseball: Clinton Walks Off Shelbyville 3-2

In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, Stone Stith hit a fly ball that was dropped by the Rams' left-fielder, allowing Clinton to walk off Shelbyville 3-2 in a Class 2A Regional Semifinal Matchup in Clinton. 

 

Trailing 2-0, Cole Fentress led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single, followed by a single from nine-hitter Xander Reynolds to put the tying runs on first and second. A batter later, Jack Manning singled to second, scoring Fentress, and Reynolds came around on an error from Rams second baseman Brewer Wakeland to tie it at 2-2. 

 

Moments later, Josh Bass singled to advance Manning to third, and Brock Wilson was intentionally walked to load the bases. A batter later, Stith hit a fly ball to left field and reached on an error by left fielder Wyatt Montgomery that scored Jack Manning for the walk-off win. 

 

Shelbyville got on the board first in the top of the fourth when Collin Jones singled to center field and scored Austin Ulmer. They made it 2-0 with a single to short from Brady Clark that scored Will Stirret in the sixth. 

 

Manning was 3-for-4 to lead the Maroons, with a run scored and a run driven in. Fentress and Xander Reynolds both came home and had a hit for Clinton. Ryan Pine and Bass also recorded hits. 

 

Preston Curtis twirled a complete game, striking out six and walking two, while allowing seven hits. 

 

Rylan Murphey had a 2-for-4 day at the plate for the Rams. Ulmer went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Stirret was 1-for-2 and also came home. Jones and Clark each added a hit and an RBI in the outing. 

 

Reed Drogoven threw six innings of two-run ball, striking out five, walking two, and allowing two runs on five hits. Ulmer pitched ? of an inning in relief, struck out one, and walked one. 

 

With the win, Clinton improves to 21-13 and 10-1 in the CIC, and advances to Saturday’s Regional Championship against Maroa-Forsyth at 1 PM in Clinton. Hear the action on WHOW and all its digital platforms. Shelbyville finishes the season 15-14 and 8-3 in the CIC, with all three losses coming at the hands of the Maroons.
 

HS Baseball: Maroa-Forsyth Walks off Clinton in Regional Championship

In a game heard on WHOW, the Maroa-Forsyth Trojans rallied late and walked off the Clinton Maroons 2-1 in a Class 2A Regional Championship matchup on Saturday afternoon in Clinton. 

 

Lead off hitter Jaxon Reynolds was hit by a pitch on a 3-0 count in the top of the first for Clinton. Two sacrifice outs advanced Reynolds to third, who scored on a wild pitch before Brock Wilson flew out to center to end the inning with a 1-0 lead. 

 

The Maroons would hold their lead until the bottom of the sixth when Gunnar Larner led off with a walk for Maroa-Forstyh. Two batters later, Colby Parrot hit a ground ball and reached on an error that allowed courtesy runner Callin Rykhus to tie the game from third at 1-1. 

 

In the bottom of the seventh with two outs on the board, Cooper Wise hit a walk-off single over the head of right fielder Cole Fentress, scoring Camden Trendler from third. 

 

Reynolds was 0-for-3 today with the lone run for Clinton. Stone Stith had a 2-for-3 day at the plate, while Xander Reynolds and Brock Wilson also added hits. 

 

Wilson threw 6 ? innings of two-run ball, issuing five strikeouts, walking seven, and permitting three hits. Cooper Massey allowed one hit as he finished out the final inning in relief. 

 

Wise was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Trojans. Ace Giles was 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Grady Rose was also 1-for-3. 

 

Trendler pitched four innings, allowing three hits, three walks, an unearned run, and striking out two. Kaden Blunck came in for three innings of relief, striking out four and allowing one hit. 

 

With the win, Maroa-Forsyth improves to 23-9-1 and advances to Wednesday’s Sectional Semifinal against Tolono Unity in Monticello. Clinton finishes the season 21-14. 
 

HS Baseball: Tolono Unity Shuts Out Monticello for Regional Championship

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Tyler Henry was brilliant on the mound, facing only two over the minimum, and shut out Monticello in a 6-0 Class 2A Regional Championship victory Saturday in Monticello.

Henry struck out four, walked three, and permitted just one hit in a complete game, shutout effort on Saturday. He benefitted from a pickoff and caught stealing that mitigated two of the four Sages' base runners on the afternoon.

The Rockets took advantage of Sages miscues in the bottom of the first to go up 3-0. 

Brayden Henry broke the game open in the sixth with a three-run home run, to put Unity up 6-0.

The Rockets go to 25-8 overall. They advance to the Monticello Sectional on Wednesday, taking on the winner of the Clinton Regional between Maroa-Forsyth and Clinton.

The Sages end their campaign at 30-5. 

HS Baseball: Mt Pulaski Clinches Regional Championship, Topping Heyworth

Luke Martin was excellent on the mound Saturday, leading Mt. Pulaski to 3-1 win over Heyworth to capture a Class 1A Regional Championship from the Mt. Pulaski Regional.

Martin struck out five, walked one, and allowed just one hit in seven innings. 

Chase Roberts was the only Hilltopper with multiple hits, going 2-for-4. Aaron Volle, Tyler Cross, and Carter Clark drove in runs for Mt. Pulaski.

Braxton Denning was 2-for-3 to lead Heyworth. Tristan Crow drove in the only run for the Hornets, going 1-for-3 with a double. He worked around five walks, going 4 2/3 innings with six strikeouts and permitted three runs. 

The Hornets finish their season 14-13 overall.

Mt. Pulaski goes to 22-11 overall and will take on Lexington Wednesday at 7 pm in Bloomington at Illinois Wesleyan in Class 1A Sectional semifinal action. 

HS Baseball: Normal Community Blasts Moline

A run-scoring wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning plated the tenth and game-ending run for Normal Community, as the Ironmen rolled Moline 10-0 in a run-rule, Class 4A Regional Championship route on Saturday in Moline.

Max Heineman and Luke Beaty each doubled and drove in two for Normal Community. Hank Baldwin singled in a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Carter Harris and Gavin Swartz each recorded RBIs. 

Josh Jones fired 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball with three walks, six strikeouts, and permitted just three hits.

The Ironmen go to 32-2 overall. They take on Minooke on Wednesday at 6 pm at Duffy Bass Field on the campus of Illinois State University at 6 pm.

HS Baseball: Champaign Central Pulls Past Normal West for Regional Championship

Champaign Central scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, pulling away late from Normal West for a Class 3A Regional Championship on Saturday at the Champaign Central Regional.

The Maroons were up 3-1 and put the game out of reach with three-straight run-scoring hits. 

Sam McCully had the only RBI on the afternoon for the Wildcats, who mustered just three hits against three Champaign Central pitchers.

Normal West finishes the season 23-15 overall. 

HS Baseball: Late Surge Powers Monticello Past Westville in Regional Action

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, a nine-run sixth inning opened the floodgates and pushed Monticello past Westville, 11-2, in high school baseball Class 2A Regional semifinal action in Monticello on Thursday.

With the game tied at 2-2, going to the bottom of the sixth inning, miscues and walks allowed Monticello to send 13 batters to the plate. Grant Kiger hit a ground-rule double and a two-run single in the sixth. Koyie Williams walked and scored, then had an RBI single later in the sixth. 

Heyden Romano went the distance on the hill for Monticello. The senior struck out six, walked four, and permitted just one hit. He worked through a bases-loaded, nobody-out jam in the fourth inning, permitting a two-run suicide squeeze. But settled down to retire nine of the final ten batters he faced - including an inning-ending double play in the sixth.

Monticello goes to 30-4 overall. They take on rival Tolono Unity for a Regional Championship on Saturday at 11 am. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com. 

HS Baseball: Springfield High Edges Lincoln in Regional Semifinals

Brody Scheffler struck out 11, pitching into the seventh inning, and Springfield High downed Lincoln 2-1 in a Class 3A Regional semifinal win on Thursday in Lincoln.

Scheffler went 6 1/3, allowing a run on three hits with three walks. 

Carson Fuiten (fee-ten) went toe-to-toe with the Senators' senior. He went the distance for the Railsplitter, striking out three, walking one, and permitting six hits.

Gage Rutledge had the only RBI for Lincoln, finishing 1-for-2. Ashton Lucas and Cooper Koehler had the other hits in the defeat.

Lincoln finishes its season at 22-11. 

HS Baseball: Maroa-Forsyth Blanks Olympia in Regional Action

Ace Giles and Camden Trendler combined to shut out Olympia, backing a quick start for Maroa-Forsyth in a 5-0 Class 2A Regional semifinal win from the Clinton Regional on Wednesday evening.

Trendler went 3 2/3 wth five strikeouts, allowing a hit and a walk. Giles went the final 3 1/3, allowing three hits, a walk, and striking out five.

A wild pitch in the bottom of the first scored the first run for the Trojans.

Maroa-Forsyth put the game out of reach early with a four-run second. Giles tripled in a run to make it 3-0. Colby Lane singled in two more to cap the four-run frame and put the Trojans up 5-0.

Giles was 2-for-2 at the plate. Lane was 1-for-2 with two RBIS.

Maroa-Forsyth improves to 22-9-1 overall. They play the winner of Thursday's second Regional semifinal from Clinton High School between Shelbyville and Clinton on Saturday at 1 pm for the Regional title.

HS Baseball: Normal Community Rolls Plainfield South in Regional Action

Gavin Swartz tossed a no-hitter and Normal Community pounded its way to a 10-0, five-inning run-rule win over Plainfield South, 10-0 in a Class 4A Regional semifinal high school baseball game on Wednesday evening in the Moline Regional.

Swartz struck out nine, walked two, and hit a batter, facing just three over the minimum in five innings.

Luke Beaty doubled twice and was 2-for-4. Andrew Naour was 2-for-4 with a double. Beckett Weber was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Andrew Naour was 2-for-4 with a double. Carter Harris doubled and drove in a run for the Ironmen.

Jacob Engel drove in two from the bottom of the order. Gavin Michaels and Drew Stevens also had RBIs for Normal Community. 

The Ironmen move to 33-2. They will play the winner of Thursday's matchup between East Moline United and Moline on Saturday for a Regional title. 

HS Baseball: Mt. Pulaski Walks Off Ridgeview for Regional Win

Aaron Volle's single and Ridgeview miscues scored Luke Martin in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Mt. Pulaski walked off a 3-2 nine-inning, Class 1A Regional semifinal classic on Wednesday evening at Veteran's Park in Mt. Pulaski. 

With two outs, Martin walked. Volle singled to center field. Martin advanced to third on a throwing error, and another error scored Martin as the Hilltoppers poured out of the dugout to celebrate escaping a Regional semifinal marathon.

Volle was 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI for Mt. Pulaski. Jaeden Jackson was 1-for-4 with the other Hilltoppers' run batted in.

Carter Clark went four innings of one-run ball - the run was unearned - on two hits with six strikeouts and a walk. 

Volle fired two innings of shutout relief with two strikeouts, and Martin fired three shutout innings with three strikeouts. 

Mt. Pulaski is 20-11 overall. They await the winner of Thursday's Regional semifinal between Heyworth and Springfield Lutheran on Saturday morning for a Regional championship.

HS Softball: BCC Outlasts Monticello

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Bloomington Central Catholic outlasted Monticello 5-4 in a Class 2A Regional Championship high school softball nine-inning marathon on Friday afternoon from Bloomington Central Catholic High School.

The Lady Saints jumped out in front for a 3-0 lead, and its pitcher, Jaelyn Moritz, looked like she was going to carry BCC to an easy win.

But Monticello battled back with a four-run fifth inning to go in front 4-3. A pair of passed balls scored a run, and Meadow Miller delivered an RBI base hit in the frame. 

A solo home run in BCC's sixth inning from Brynn Landrus tied the game at 4-4. 

The score would stay tied at 4-4 until the Lady Saints got a run with two outs on a single from Lauren Durako to put BCC in front 5-4. 

The Lady Sages finish the season 21-10 overall.

BCC advances to the Monticello sectional next week.

HS Baseball: Lincoln Downs Springfield Lanphier

Kane Komnick was dominant on the bump and led Lincoln to a 5-3 win over Springfield Lanphier in Central State Eight high school baseball action on Friday afternoon in Lincoln.

Komnick pitched into the seventh inning, striking out ten while walking one. He permitted seven hits and three runs. 

Karson Komnick was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Gage Rutledge, Owen Comstock, and Chase March drove in runs for the Railsplitters. 

Lincoln goes to 22-9 overall and 4-4 in the Central State Eight. They host Williamsville on Saturday. 

HS Baseball: Normal Rallies Past Huntley

Andrew Naour's double scored Luke Beaty, and Normal Community scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off Huntley 7-6 in non-conference high school baseball action on Friday afternoon in Normal.

Huntley led 6-2 going to the final frame. 

Ty Beckman doubled to start the inning. Gavin Michaels followed with a walk. Max Heineman scored Beckman with a single to center, and Drew Stevens followed with a three-run home run to tie the game at 6-6.

After the first out of the inning, Beaty singled and scored from first on the double from Naour to put the game away for Normal Community. 

Stevens was 1-for-3 with the three-run home run. Heineman was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Corbin Harris was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Ironmen.

Normal Community goes to 32-2 overall. It's off to Regional action next week. 

HS Baseball: Lincoln Blows By Decatur MacArthur

Lincoln used a fast start to roll Decatur MacArthur 9-5 in Central State Eight high school baseball action on Thursday in Decatur.

The Railers led 3-0, then 7-2, and held off the Generals late for the win. 

Ashton Lucas was 2-for-2 with three walks and three stolen bases. Gage Rutledge finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Karson Komnick was 1-for-4 with a double. Bryson Vlahovich drove in two. 

Vlahovich allowed two runs - one earned - on three hits with seven strikeouts to three walks to earn the win for the Railsplitters. 

Lincoln goes to 21-9 overall and 4-4 in the Central State Eight. They host Springfield Lanphier on Friday.

HS Baseball: Warrensburg-Latham Downs Mt. Pulaski

The top of the lineup carried Warrensburg-Latham to a 5-3 win over Mt. Pulaski in non-conference high school baseball action on Thursday in Warrensburg. 

Nathan Southern, Jayden Peck, Easton McKenzie, Trenton Bridges, and Casen Reynolds each drove in a run. Bridges was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. McKenzie and Reynolds each hit doubles as well for the Cardinals, while Peck was 2-for-4. 

Reynolds struck out eight across five innings, allowing an unearned run and three hits as well as three walks. 

A late comeback effort fell short for the Hilltoppers. Tyler Cross recorded the only RBI on the afternoon for Mt. Pulaski. Cross and Luke Martin hit doubles in the defeat. 

Warrensburg-Latham goes to 19-8 overall.

Mt. Pulaski falls to 20-10. They will host Maroa-Forsyth on Saturday. 

HS Baseball: Mt. Zion Outlasts Normal West in 13-Inning Thriller

Kellen Bollhorst scored Evan Howley in the bottom of the 13th inning, sending Mt. Zion to a 1-0, 13-inning marathon win in non-conference high school baseball from Mt. Zion High School.

Howley walked with one out in the bottom of the 13th. He stole second, and Bollhorst delivered with two outs. 

Both teams combined to strike out 38 times.

Connor Fox and Ty Bachman went toe-to-toe to start the game. Bachman fired six shutout innings for the Wildcats with ten strikeouts, while Fox went seven shutout innings with ten strikeouts for the Braves. 

Peyton Delgado went five shutout innings in relief of Fox with six strikeouts. 

Mt. Zion goes to 17-11 overall while Normal West drops to 20-13. 

Normal West will play in a round robin tournament in Champaign this weekend. 

BREAKING: Clinton Topples Shelbyville For Central Illinois Conference Baseball Title

Preston Curtis threw a complete game, and Clinton took down Shelbyville for a second time this season, a 4-1 win, clinching a Central Illinois Conference high school baseball title on Thursday in Shelbyville.

Curtis allowed a run on four hits with five strikeouts. 

At 9-1 in the CIC, the Maroons clinched the Conference title outright this spring. 

Ryan Pine hit a solo home run, and Josh Bass drove in a run as well. Brock Wilson and Stone Stith each contributed doubles in the win.

Shelbyville and Clinton will meet in a Regional semifinal next week at the Clinton Regional. At 20-12 overall, the Maroons play a tune-up game with Prairie Central on Tuesday before its Regional semifinal tilt on Thursday.

HS Softball: Tolono Unity Shuts Out Clinton in Regional Semifinal

In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, Danika Eisenmenger struck out nine across four innings, helping the Tolono Unity Rockets shut out the Clinton Maroons 6-0 in a Class 2A softball regional semifinal matchup on Wednesday night in Forsyth. 

 

The Rockets got on the board first in the home half of the second. Eisenmenger slammed a double to left, and Karleigh Jamison quickly followed with a single. With two outs on the board, Grace Bickers singled to left to score Maya Rawdins, who was running for Eisenmenger, to make it 1-0. From there, Kenley Harris singled to right to score Jamison, and Bickers came home on an error on the same play to make it 3-0. 

 

They added two more in the fourth as Bickers hit a grounder and reached on an error, which also scored Reese Frye. Shelby Smith hit a sac fly to right that scored Bickers and made it 5-0. Bickers also hit a solo homer in the sixth. 

Riley Fentress, Avery Smith, Kinzey Sickles, and Aliviyah Haynes each had hits in the outing for Clinton. 

 

Haynes allowed six runs on seven hits, struck out one, and walked two. 

Bickers led the Rockets with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. She plated three runs and scored three times. Reese Frye was also 2-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of doubles. Jamison was 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Smith was 0-for-3 with an RBI. 

 

Eisenmenger got the start for Tolono Unity and recorded nine strikeouts across four innings, allowed one hit, and walked just one. Korina Finical came in in relief and threw three innings of shutout ball for the save, striking out three and walking one. 

 

The Maroons finish the regular season with a record of 10-20. Tolono Unity improves to 26-7 and advances to the championship of the Maroa-Forsyth Regional on Thursday against either St. Joseph-Ogden or Tri-Valley at 6 PM.
 

HS Baseball: Clinton Takes Down Maroa-Forsyth

The Clinton Maroons fell behind early, but rallied late to beat the Maroa Forsyth Trojans 7-4 in non-conference high school baseball action on Tuesday night in Clinton. 

 

The Trojans jumped out ahead early, as Gunner Larner doubled on a fly ball to center that scored Ace Giles from second and advanced Camden Trendler to Third. 

In the next at-bat, Trendler scored on a wild pitch delivered by Jack Manning. After Coby Lane walked, Cooper Wise popped out to second to end the inning with a 2-0 Trojans advantage. 

 

Maroa-Forsyth added another two runs in the fourth after back-to-back singles to lead off the inning from Giles and Trendler. They were brought home by Coby Lane's ground ball to center field to make it 4-0. 

 

Ryan Pine led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a single, followed by a Cole Fentress walk. Two batters later, Jaxon Reynolds slammed a 2-out three-run homer to bring the game within 4-3. 

 

An inning later, Josh Bass led off with a single, and Brock Wilson was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. From there, Hanes came in to pitch for the Trojans and committed a balk that loaded the bases, setting up a single from Stone Stith that scored Wilson and Bass and gave the lead to the Maroons 5-4.

 

Reynolds single in the bottom of the sixth was the nail in the coffin as he scored Jaxon Cooper and Cole Fentress for the final 7-4 tally.  

 

Reynolds led the Maroons with a 2-for-2 day at the plate, a run scored, two walks, and five RBIs. Fentress was 1-for-2 with a pair of runs scored. Josh Bass and Ryan Pine each recorded hits in the outing, and Stone Stitch recorded a 1-for-3 day with an RBI. 

 

Jack Manning got the start for the Maroons, pitching five innings of four-run ball with seven hits and five strikeouts. Freshman Cooper Massey got the save with two shutout innings of relief, allowing just one hit, permitting one walk, and striking out two. 

 

Giles, Trendler, and Grady Rose each posted two hit days at the plate, with Giles and Trendler each coming home twice. Larner and Lane each had a hit, Lane brought home two, and Larner plated one. 

 

With the win, Clinton improves to 19-12. They will finish the regular season with a conference matchup at CIC rival Shelbyville on Thursday, each team getting an early look at their first-round opponent as the postseason begins next week. 

 

Maroa-Forsyth falls to 19-9-1 and will take on Eureka at home this evening at 5 PM. 
 

HS Softball: Monticello Blanks Oakwood

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Cassidee Stoffel twirled a complete game shutout and drove in a run as she led Monticello to a 2-0 victory over Oakwood in Class 2A high school softball regional semifinal action on Tuesday at the Bloomington Central Catholic Regional.

Stoffel was brilliant for Monticello, retiring 19 of the final 21 batters she faced.

The Lady Comets got back-to-back two-out singles in the first inning and only had two base runners after that. The senior struck out eight, walked zero batters, and permitted just four hits.

Stoffel also drove in the ultimate winning run with a bloop single in the third inning.

Annie Robinson drove in a run in the fourth inning. Robinson finished 2-for-2 with an RBI. Stoffel was 1-for-3 with an RBI, earning the State Bank of Bement player of the game. 

Ali Weidner was 1-for-2 with a walk for the Lady Sages, who improved to 23-9 overall. They will play the winner of Wednesday's second Regional semifinal in Bloomington between Central Catholic and Westville.

HS Baseball: PORTA-AC Central Rallies Past Mt. Pulaski

PORTA-AC Central scored the final five runs of the game and rallied past Mt. Pulaski 6-2 in high school baseball action on Tuesday in Petersburg.

The Blue Jays fell behind 2-1 when Aaron Volle tied the game with a sac-fly in the third inning, and Luke Martin scored on a passed ball. 

But PORTA-AC Central tied the game in the bottom half of the third and scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to go in front for good.

The Hilltoppers managed just one hit in the defeat. They drew six walks and struck out eight times.

Mt. Pulaski drops to 19-9 overall. They will host Argenta-Oreana on Wednesday. 

HS Softball: Clinton Tops Maroa-Forsyth in Regional Quarterfinal

In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, the Clinton Lady Maroons defeated the Maroa-Forsyth Trojans by a final score of 2-1 in a Regional Quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday night in Clinton. 

 

With the game tied at 0-0 through the first four innings, Kinzey Sickles lined a double to right in the top half of the fifth for Clinton, who played as the away team despite playing on their home turf due to poor field conditions in Forsyth. 

 

Campbell Bass followed Sickles with a single. A sac bunt from nine-hitter Aliviyah Haynes put two outs on the board, but advanced both runners to scoring position. As the lineup turned over, Riley Fentress hit a ground ball and reached on an error from pitcher Abby Rider that allowed Sickles to score and Bass to advance. Another error, this time from the first baseman, allowed Anelise Thompson to reach and Bass to score to make it 2-0 in favor of the Maroons. 

 

In the home half of the fifth, nine-hitter Jacy Ravenscraft reached on Hayne’s only walk of the day, and was scored by a double from Kalli Kahler to get one back for Maroa-Forsyth and make it 2-1. 

 

Bass finished the day 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and a run scored. Sickles was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Haynes was 1-for-2. 

 

Haynes twirled seven innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits, permitting two walks, and striking out four. 

 

Kahler was 3-for-4 with the lone RBI for the Trojans. Maliyah Hunter and Larner recorded the only other hits for Maroa-Forsyth.

 

With the win, Clinton improves to 10-19 and will take on the top-seeded Tolono Unity on Wednesday in Forsyth. First pitch is at 4:30 PM. Hear all the action on WHOW and all its digital platforms.

HS Baseball: Clinton Beats Warrensburg-Latham

Brock Wilson fired a no-hitter as Clinton outlasted the rain and Warrensburg-Latham 3-1 in a Central Illinois Conference high school baseball classic on Monday in Clinton. 

 

Wilson allowed two walks and struck out eight in a complete-game, one-run outing.

 

He outdueled Trenton Bridges, who struck out ten in five innings. Bridges permitted three runs - two were earned - while walking seven and allowing two hits.

 

Wilson drove in two of the three Maroons runs. Josh Bass hit a double, going 2-for-2.

 

Nathan Southern had the only RBI for the Cardinals. 

 

Warrensburg-Latham goes to 17-7 overall and 7-2 in the Central Illinois Conference. They travel to Okaw Valley on Tuesday. 

 

The Maroons go to 18-12 overall and 8-1 in the Central Illinois Conference. They host Maroa-Forsyth on Tuesday.

 

HS Baseball: Normal Community Secures Third Straight Big 12 Conference Title With Easy Win Over Bloomington

Normal Community clinched its third straight Big 12 Conference championship on Monday afternoon as the Ironmen made easy work of Bloomington High School, 12-0, at Bloomington High School in Big 12 Conference high school baseball action.

Kyle Glass struck out six across seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and walking one.

The Ironmen scored six in the first inning, capped by a two-run triple from Josh Jones. 

Max Heineman was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Gavin Michaels, Owen Knox, and Andrea Naour drove in runs for Normal Community.

The Ironmen go to 30-2 overall and are 17-1 in the Big 12. They visit Lincoln-Way East on Wednesday.

HS Baseball: Peoria Richwoods Rallies Past Normal West

Peoria Richwoods scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off Normal West 4-3 in Big 12 Conference high school baseball action on Monday afternoon in Peoria.

It was a two-run double that ended the game for the Knights.

Richwoods won a Friday afternoon thriller, 1-0 in ten innings in Normal.

The Knights spoiled a stellar outing from Mayson Aslinger, who spun five innings of two-run ball, allowing five hits, no walks, and striking out six. 

Riley Larkin led the Wildcats, finishing 2-for-4 with all three RBIs and a triple. Sam McCully was 1-for-4 with a double. Calen Riter was 2-for-3. 

Normal West goes to 20-11 overall and finishes 12-5 in the Big 12. They host Mt. Zion on Thursday. 

HS Baseball Postseason Pairing Released

The high school baseball postseason pairings were released on Wednesday afternoon by the IHSA office.

Clinton and Monticello will each host a Regional in Class 2A.

The Maroons drew a four seed and will take on sixth-seeded Shelbyville in a Regional semifinal on Thursday, May 28 at 4:30 pm.

Maroa-Forsyth is the top seed in the Monticello sub-sectional and was assigned to the Clinton Regional. The Trojans take on the winner of a quarter-final matchup between Olympia and Bloomington Cornerstone Christian Academy on Wednesday, May 27. 

The Clinton Regional Championship is on Saturday, May 30 at 1 pm. 

In the Monticello Regional, Tolono Unity is the two-seed and takes on the winner of Champaign St. Thomas More and Georgetown-Ridge Farm in a quarterfinal matchup.

The Sages will battle Westville in a Regional semifinal on Thursday, May 28 at 4:30 pm. The Regional championship is a 11 am on Saturday, May 30.

HS Softball: Clinton Blasts Shelbyville

Avery Smith and Hadley Humble led an offensive onslaught as Clinton rolled Shelbyville 13-1 in a Central Illinois Conference win on Wednesday in high school girls softball from Shelbyville. 

The Lady Maroons exploded for six runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings.

Smith was 3-for-5 with three RBIs while Humble was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Lainey Nichols also doubled in the win. 

Riley Fentress was 1-for-2 with three walks, an RBI, and three runs scored for Clinton. Kiera Sickles, Campbell Bass, Analise Thompson, and Aliviyah Haynes each drove in runs. 

Haynes twirled seven innings of one-run ball for the Lady Maroons. The senior permitted seven hits and a walk while striking out three. 

Clinton is 7-18 overall and 2-5 in the CIC. They visit Central A&M on Thursday. 

HS Baseball: Mt. Pulaski Topples Havana

Luke Martin struck out 11 across six innings of three-run ball, Jaeden Jackson had three hits as Mt. Pulaski outlasted Havana 5-3 in non-conference high school baseball action on Wednesday in Havana.

Martin struck out 11 to just one walk and six hits. 

The Hilltoppers cleaned up the defense, committing just one error.

Jackson was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

After Aaron Volle doubled in the first run of the game for the Hilltoppers in the first, Jackson singled in Volle to make it 2-0. 

A two-base, two-run error from Martin made it 4-1 Hilltoppers in the second. 

The Ducks cut the deficit to 4-3 in the third, but Jackson's double in the fifth inning scored Martin to make it 5-3 Mt. Pulaski.

Chase Roberts was 2-for-3 with a double for the Hilltoppers. Volle finished 1-for-4 with an RBI and a double.

Mt. Pulaski goes to 17-8 overall. They host El Paso-Gridley on Thursday.

HS Baseball: Warrensburg-Latham Edges Williamsville

Dawson Waterhouse singled in Trenton Bridges, and Warrensburg-Latham walked off Williamsville 2-1 on Wednesday in non-conference high school baseball in Warrensburg. 

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Nathan Southern scored Waterhouse on a groundout to even the score at 1-1. 

Bridges singled to start the seventh inning and was sacrificed to second. Camden Auten was intentionally walked before Waterhouse singled to left to bring home the game-winning run.

Casen Reynolds pitched into the sixth inning and struck out ten. His only run allowed was unearned in the first inning. 

Reynolds also finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Cardinals go to 16-6 overall. They host Shelbyville in Central Illinois Conference action on Friday.

HS Baseball: Heyworth Explodes Past Bloomington Cornerstone Christian

An eight-run third inning propelled Heyworth to a 13-2 win over Bloomington Cornerstone Christian Academy on Wednesday in non-conference high school baseball action in Bloomington.

Ridge Braden was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Hornets. Braydon Laesch, Caleb Zellers, and Braxton Denning each finished with two RBIs.

Laesch had two stolen bases. 

Heyworth goes to 11-12. They host Olympia on Thursday. 

HS Baseball: Normal West Rolls Peoria Notre Dame

Mayson Aslinger allowed an unearned run in a complete game win, leading Normal West past Peoria Notre Dame 7-1 in Big 12 Conference high school baseball action on Wednesday in Normal.

Sam McCully and Ty Bachman went deep, backing Aslinger's complete game. Aslinger struck out seven, walked zero, and permitted seven hits. 

Bachman hit a two-run shot in the first inning to stake the Wildcats to a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, McCully went deep to make it 3-0.

Calen Riter was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Normal West, while Drake Rumps hit a double.

The Wildcats are 19-11 overall and 11-5 in the Big 12. They host Peoria Richwoods on Friday. 

HS Baseball: Pleasant Plains Blanks Lincoln

Sophomore Kreston Shultz went the distance in a 5-0 shutout effort of Lincoln on Wednesday in non-conference high school baseball action from Lincoln High School.

Shultz struck out five, walked one, and allowed three hits. 

Owen Comstock was 2-for-3 for the Railers. Bryce Vlahovich had the other hit for Lincoln. 

Lincoln goes to 18-9 overall. They travel to North Mac on Friday. 

HS Softball: Heyworth Rolls Decatur St. Teresa

Karissa Cook homered, leading a Heyworth power surge in an 11-4 win over Decatur St. Teresa on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference high school softball from Decatur.

Cook was 2-for-5 with two RBIs for the Lady Hornets - who pounded out six extra base hits in the contest.

Natalie Kopp doubled twice and drove in three runs, finishing 3-for-4. Lauren Streenz, Haley Rogers, and Alia Riddle added doubles for Heyworth. 

Kopp overcame five errors and six walks in circle to fight through seven complete innings. She struck out eight and permitted four hits. 

Heyworth goes to 17-11 overall. They visit Champaign St. Thomas More on Thursday. 

HS Softball: Monticello Rally Falls Short to Mattoon

Monticello fell behind 6-0, but a late comeback bid fell short as Mattoon escaped with a 6-5 win on Wednesday in non-conference high school softball action in Monticello.

Back-to-back run-scoring passed balls in the fourth inning allowed the Lady Sages to get within 6-2.

Cassidee Stoffel reached on a run-scoring error an inning later to make the deficit 6-3. 

In the seventh, trailing 6-3, Annie Robinson started the inning with a triple. Meadow Miller followed with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 6-4. Sadie Walsh singled home Miller to clear the bases and make it 6-5. 

Down to its last out, Stoffel would single, but Isabell Beery hit a comebacker to the Mattoon pitcher to end the rally and the game. 

In addition to Robinson's triple and Miller's double, Ali Weidner hit a double for Monticello.

The Lady Sages go to 21-9 overall. They finish out the regular season on Friday, hosting Arthur Christian before going into Regional action next week at Bloomington Central Catholic High School.

HS Baseball: Monticello Stops Clinton

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Forrest Rawdin fired six innings of two-run ball as the Monticello offense scored early and often to get by Clinton 7-2 in non-conference high school baseball action on Wednesday in Monticello.

Rawdin allowed two unearned runs while allowing four hits, a walk, and striking out six. 

The Sages scored three runs in the first inning, highlighted by run-scoring hits from Cole Basak and Heyden Romano. Jake Robinson hit into a run-scoring fielder's choice.

Grant Kiger scored two with a base hit in the second inning to up the Sages' lead to 5-0. 

Zeke Young belted a run-scoring triple in the third, and Dawson Gaitros followed with a run-scoring hit to cap the Sages' scoring and make it  7-0. 

The Maroons were led by Mitchell Cornwell, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Stone Smith was 2-for-4 with a double. Jaxon Reynolds, Xander Reynolds, and Josh Bass had hits for Clinton.

Cole Fentress fired three innings of shutout relief with four strikeouts while permitting three hits and two walks.

Clinton drops to 16-12 overall. They host Meridian on Friday.

Monticello goes to 27-2 overall. They visit Champaign Central on Friday.

HS Baseball: Clinton Blasts Central A&M

Ryan Pine went deep, and Josh Bass drove in five runs as Clinton scored 17 runs in the seventh inning to blow by Central A&M 22-1 in Central Illinois Conference play from Moweaqua on Monday.

Pine drove in a game-best six runs and finished 4-for-4 - a triple shy of the cycle. Bass was 2-for-4 with a double and five RBIs.

Stone Stith had a double and drove in two. Jack Manning tripled and drove in two runs as well. Mitchell Cornwell and Xavier Reynolds had two RBIs for the Maroons. 

Pine struck out four in three innings of shutout ball. Cornwell struck out six in three scoreless innings.

HS Softball: Olympia Blanks Monticello

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Olympia's Gabby Frye outdueled Monticello's Cassidee Stoffel in a 1-0 win in non-conference high school softball action on Monday in Monticello.

Stoffel and Frye went toe-to-toe, each going the distance in circle.

Frye struck out the final two batters she faced to finish with 11 strikeouts while permitting only four hits.

Stoffel struck out ten, walked one, but worked out consistent trouble throughout the game. Her only blemish was a Finley Hoffman RBI single in the fourth inning.

Kennedie Finchum was 2-for-4 to lead Olympia.

Thea Key, Sadie Walsh, Stoffel, and Reece Stiger had the only hits for the Lady Sages.

Olympia is 25-7 overall. Monticello drops to 20-8. 

HS Baseball: Mt. Pulaski Rolls Tri-City

Mt. Pulaski jumped out big early and never looked back as they routed Buffalo Tri-City 12-2 in a five-inning, run-rule win on Monday in non-conference high school baseball action in Mt. Pulaski.

Tyler Cross drove in a team-best three runs. Luke Martin drove in a pair of runs with a double. Keoni Charron had two RBIs and added a double for the Hilltoppers.

Mt. Pulaski overcame seven errors in the win. 

Preston Cowan struck out four in five innings of two-run ball; both runs were unearned. 

Mt. Pulaski is 16-8 overall. They travel to Havana on Wednesday. 

HS Baseball: Lincoln Edges Rantoul

Chase March's run-scoring base hit scored two runs, and Lincoln walked off Rantoul 3-2 in non-conference high school baseball action on Monday in Lincoln.

March's single scored Gage Rutledge, and Tate Aue ended up scoring on an error in the outfield. 

Carson Fuiten struck out nine in a complete game effort. The senior allowed two runs, one was earned, on four hits with just one walk.

Karson Komnick, Austin Lucas, Sampson Kurka, and Kane Komnick each had a pair of hits for the Railsplitters, who honored Kurka, Komnick, Fuiten, and Lucas for senior day before the game.

The Railers go to 17-8 overall. They visit Springfield Southeast on Tuesday. 

HS Baseball: Normal Community Blasts Peoria High in Monday Doubleheader

Kyle Glass drove in five runs, and Normal Community pounded out 12 hits and drew 12 walks as they made easy work of Peoria High School, 22-0 in a three-inning, run-rule win on Monday in Big 12 Conference high school baseball action in Normal in the opener of a doubleheader. 

Owen Knox drew a team-best four walks and drove in two runs. Chase Hendren and Nico Salvati drove in three runs for the Ironmen.

Hendren struck out nine in three perfect innings for Normal Community. 

In the second game, Carter Reiners drove in four runs as Normal Community followed up its opening win with a 17-0 victory in the second game. 

Reiners doubled twice. Salvati added another double in the second game. Glass drove in two as well. 

Normal Community played its JV lineup on Monday.

The Ironmen are 26-2 overall and 15-1 in Big 12 play. They take on Normal U-High on Tuesday. 

HS Baseball: Effingham St. Anthony Knocks Off Monticello

A four-run fourth inning allowed Effingham St. Anthony to get by Monticello 5-3 in non-conference high school baseball action on Monday in Monticello. 

After St. Anthony went ahead 4-1 in the fourth, Forrest Rawdin blasted a two-run shot that made it 4-3. 

Grant Kiger brought in a run to put the Sage in front 1-0 in the first. He later doubled. 

Dawson Gaitros, Cole Basak, and Koyie Williams had the only other hits for the Sages.

HS Baseball: Peoria Notre Dame Rallies Past Normal West

Normal West built an early lead, but Peoria Notre rallied for an 8-5 win in Big 12 Conference High School baseball action on Monday in Peoria. 

The Wildcats went up 3-0 in the top of the second inning, but Poeria Notre Dame scored eight of the game's final ten runs to come away with the win. 

Mason Ahslinger drove in three to lead the Wildcats. He was 2-for-4 with a triple. 

Sam McCully drove in a run for Normal West. 

The Wildcats to go to 17-11 overall and 9-5 in the Big 12. They visit Danville on Tuesday before returning home to host Peoria Notre Dame on Wednesday. 

HS Softball: Clinton Rallies Past Shelbyville

In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, Hadley Humble hit a two-run homer in the fourth that helped the Clinton Maroons defeat the Shelbyville Rams by a final score of 9-7 in Central Illinois Conference high school softball action on Monday afternoon in Clinton. 

 

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Hadley Humble launched a two-run homer that also scored Riley Fentress, and sparked a game-winning rally for the Maroons. Kinzey Sickles and Lainey Nichols singled, and Khloe Riddle was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out on the board. 

 

A disputed infield fly ruling involving nine-hitter Aliviyah Haynes eliminated a potential inning-ending double play for Shelbyville. Still trailing 3-1 with the bases loaded and one out on the board, a flurry of singles and a double by Avery Smith made the score 6-3 and set up a 2 RBI triple for Riley Fentress that made it 8-3. 

 

Shelbyville got on the board first with a solo HR from Alex Jokisch. They got three runs back in the top of the fifth with singles from Kenzie Jones, Adison Musser, an RBI double from Claire Canada, and an RBI single from Tailyn Hancock to cut the Maroons' lead to 8-6. 

 

In the home half of the fifth, Haynes scored Nichols with a sac fly to add an insurance run and make it 9-6, although Shelbyville got one back with a second solo homer in the top of the sixth from Jokisch.

 

Fentress led the Maroons offensively, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Humble was also 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Sickles, Nichols, Thompson, and Riddle all added hits in the outing. 

 

Haynes went the distance in circle, allowing seven runs on 12 hits, struck out eight, and committed seven errors. 

 

Jokish was 3-for-4 on the day for the Rams with two RBIs and three runs scored, including two solo homers. Aylah Logan, Canada, and Hancock all posted 2-for-4 days while Jones and Musser each added singles. 

 

Karli Boehm pitched six innings, allowing nine runs on 10 hits, struck out four, and walked one. 

 

With the win, Clinton improves to 8-17 and 3-5 in Central Illinois Conference play. Shelbyville falls to 6-12 and 2-6 in the CIC. The two teams will face off once again on Wednesday in Shelbyville. 

HS Baseball: Lincoln Shuts Out Clinton

In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, the Lincoln Railsplitters capitalized on pitching errors in the first to beat the Clinton Maroons 3-0 in non-conference high school baseball action on Friday in Lincoln. 

 

Lincoln leadoff hitter Karson Komnick reached in the bottom of the first after being hit by a pitch. An error from second baseman Preston Curtis helped Austin Lucas reach. Komnick was scored after Byrce Vlahovich was hit by a pitch, and Lucas came around on an RBI single from Chase March. 

 

The third Railers run was an RBI double from Kane Komnick in the fourth that scored Tate Aue. 

 

Josh Bass, Ryan Pine, Mitchell Cornwell, and pinch hitter Emmett Brown combined for four Maroons hits on the day. 

 

Brock Wilson went the distance in the loss, twirling six innings while allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked three. 

 

Owen Comstock, Vlahovich, Cooper Koehler, and Kane Comnick all recorded a hit in the victory. Aue went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Karson Komnick and Lucas both went hitless but both scored a run.

 

Karson Komnick had a shaky start on the mound for Lincoln, giving up three hits in three innings, walking four, and striking out two. Aue earned the win, coming in for four innings of relief, allowing just one hit and recording one strikeout. 

 

With the loss, Clinton falls to 15-11 while Lincoln improves to 16-8. 

 

The Maroons are off until Monday when they take on the Central A&M Raiders in Moweaqua in a Central Illinois Conference tilt.

HS Baseball: Monticello Gets By Pana

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Grant Kiger hit an inside-the-park home run, Koyie blasted a solo shot, backing Matthias Rudolph's five innings as Monticello beat Pana 8-3 in a makeshift, non-conference high school baseball game in Monticello on Wednesday.

Kiger took advantage of a misplayed three-run home run in the first inning. A routine flyball was lost in the midday sky by Pana's right fielder, allowing Kiger to easily score.

It was all Rudolph needed. The junior fired five innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts, three walks, and permitted two hits.

Williams fifth inning no-doubter to right put Monticello in front 8-1. 

Rudolph added an RBI triple that capped the four-run first inning for Monticello. He was 2-for-3 at the plate, earning the State Bank of Bement Player of the Game.

Kiger finished 2-for-3 with a double, in addition to his inside-the-park home run.

Pana falls to 12-11 overall.

Monticello goes to 25-2. They will host Mattoon on Saturday.

HS Baseball: Balanced Offense Powers Heyworth Past Fisher

Ridge Braden drove in five runs from the nine-spot in the Heyworth batting order, and Heyworth powered its way to an 11-3 win over Fisher in Heart of Illinois Conference baseball action on Wednesday in Heyworth.

Braden's single in the third scored three runs, to put the Hornets up 6-0. He finished 3-for-4 with a double.

Braydon Laesch and Caleb Zellers had doubles while Boston Katz had a triple in an offensive power display by the Hornets.

Katz went three innings of shutout ball with four strikeouts, and four Hornets' arms combined to strike out ten. 

Heyworth goes to 8-11-2 overall and 4-6 in Heart of Illinois Conference action. They visit Peoria Christian on Thursday. 

HS Baseball: Mt Pulask Walks Off Athens to Clinch Tomahawk Conference Championship

Chase Roberts singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning and Mt. Pulaski walked off Athens 4-3 in Tomahawk Conference action on Wednesday, clinching the outright conference championship for the Hilltoppers in Mt. Pulaski.

Skyler Durst singled to start the inning. A sacrifice moved him to second. After the second out, Roberts brought Durst home to secure the Hilltoppers 14th victory of the season.

Luke Martin pitched into the sixth inning for Mt Pulaski, allowing two runs on five hits, issuing six walks, and striking out eight. Roberts struck out six in 3 1/3 innings of relief for the win for Mt. Pulaski.

Roberts was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two walks to lead Mt. Pulaski.

The Hilltoppers are 14-7 overall. They visit Pawnee on Saturday. 

HS Baseball: Argenta-Oreana Downs Clinton

Carter Logue outdueled Preston Curtis in a spectacular pitchers' duel at Clinton High School on Wednesday afternoon.

Logue fired six innings of two-run ball with eight strikeouts. Neither run was earned for Logue.

Curtis went the distance with eight strikeouts of his own. He allowed three runs, one earned, on four hits. 

Jaxon Finch hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning that put the Bombers ahead 3-2. 

Brock Wilson reached on an error in the first inning, which scored a run. Ryan Pine followed with a double that scored Wilson to put the Maroons in front 2-0.

Finch doubled in a run in the fifth inning to make the score 2-1.

It would stay that way until the seventh.

Josh Bass was 2-for-4 with a double for Clinton at the top of the order. 

Finch finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Bombers.

Argenta-Oreana improves to 15-8 overall. They visit Villa Grove in Lincoln Prairie Conference action on Thursday.

HS Baseball: Normal Community Blanks Urbana

A nine-run fifth inning broke through a slow start for Normal Community as the Ironmen shut out Urbana 10-0 in a five-inning, run-rule win in Big 12 Conference high school baseball action on Wednesday in Urbana.

Carter Reiners fired a no-hitter across five innings of shutout ball with eight strikeouts and issued just one walk.

Max Heineman, Carter Harris, and Beckett Weber contributed doubles for Normal Community. Tyce Beckman had two RBIs. 

Normal Community goes to 22-2 overall and 12-1 in the Big 12 Conference. They will host Urbana on the return of a home-and-home in Big 12 play on Friday. 

HS Baseball: Normal West Blanks Danville

Mayson Anslinger struck out ten across six innings of shutout ball, leading Normal West to a 6-0 win over Danville in Big 12 Conference high school baseball action on Wednesday in Normal.

Ty Bachman's two-run single in a four-run third inning backed an incredible outing by Anslinger. Bachman was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. 

Anslinger had a triple.

The Wildcats go to 17-9 overall and 9-4 in the Big 12. They will travel to Danville on Friday. 

HS Softball: Monticello Blanks Maroa-Forsyth

Madison Highlight twirled five shutout innings, and Isabella Beery drove in a team-best three runs as Monticello blanked Maroa-Forsyth 10-0 in a run-rule, non-conference win over Maroa-Forsyth on Wednesday in Monticello.

 

Beery was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a triple to lead the Lady Sages.

 

Ali Weidner and Reese Stiger drove in two runs apiece, and each hit doubles for Monticello. Cassidee Stoffel and Highland drove in the other runs.

 

Highland walked three, allowed a hit, and struck out one in five shutout innings in circle for Monticello. 

 

The Lady Trojans drop to 10-17 overall. They will host Warrensburg-Latham on Friday.

HS Softball: Argenta-Oreana Doubles Up Clinton

Addison Maiden drove in four runs, and Argenta-Oreana rallied past Clinton 6-3 in non-conference high school softball action on Wednesday afternoon in Argenta.

 

Maiden's two-run home run in the third inning answered a three-run frame by the Lady Maroons to make the score 3-2. 

 

Then Maiden added a two-run home run in a decisive four-run fifth inning.

 

The Lady Maroons went in front when Lainey Brewer singled in two in the top of the third inning. Campbell Bass followed with a run-scoring single to put Clinton in front 3-0.

 

Maiden led all players, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

 

Brewer drove in two for Clinton while Avery Smith and Hadley Humble each hit doubles in the loss.

 

The Lady Bombers are 13-10 overall. They visit Villa Grove on Thursday for a Lincoln Prairie Conference tilt.

 

Clinton goes to 7-17 overall. They host Meridian on Friday in Central Illinois Conference play.

 

Former Monticello Softball Standout Wins Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year

A former Monticello softball star is the Ohio Valley Conference player of the year.

Eastern Illinois' Lizzie Stiverson was named the 2026 Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year, announced by the Conference office on Tuesday morning.

Stiverson led the OVC play with a .470 batting average, 44 hits, and 33 runs scored. The senior finished with five doubles, four home runs, 19 RBI, and three stolen bases. She walked 16 times, opposed to five strikeouts in 118 plate appearances, leading to a league-best .575 on-base percentage. Stiverson slugged .675 and finished the conference slate with a 1.250 OPS. The transfer was also named to the All-OVC first team, as well as the All-Newcomer squad.

Stiverson started her career at Parkland Community College before transferring to the University of Illinois. She then transferred to Eastern Illinois for the 2026 softball season. 

Stiverson helped Eastern Illinois softball to a 2026 Ohio Valley Conference title with a 23-3 mark. The Panthers finished 33-20 overall. 

The Ohio Valley Conference tournament comes to Peoria's Louisville Slugger Complex this week, Wednesday through Saturday. 

Seven Clinton Seniors Moving on to Collegiate Athletics

High school seniors across the Country sign contracts to play their sport at the next level. 

 

On Friday, seven Clinton Seniors signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic careers as they pursue higher education. Dylan Wright signed at Greenville University to run track and field. 

 

Able Koritz is signing at Central College to run cross country and track and field, and study mechanical engineering. He's looking forward to being challenged athletically as well as academically. 

 

Jon Smock is going to play football at Concordia University Wisconsin and major in exercise science. After missing his senior season due to injury, he can't wait to get back out on the field. 

 

Abby Moser will be taking in the beautiful views of Lake Michigan as she competes in track and field and pursues nursing at Carthage College. The holder of three school records, she is proud of her accomplishment but says that records are meant to be broken. 

 

Keagan Daughtry was looking for somewhere that he could build his passion for basketball, as well as ministry, and found that at Luther College. He said it was Luther Basketball Assistant Coach Jake Boyd who helped him decide. 

 

Carly Anderson will be staying in central Illinois as she heads to Lincoln Land Community College to play basketball. She says having the support of her friends and family by staying close to home is important to her. 

 

Clara Dempsey is also playing basketball at the collegiate level, going to Southeastern Community College. She will remember her time at Clinton fondly, but says that her education will be her main focus in college.

HS Softball: Warrensburg-Latham Blanks Clinton 11-0

In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, the Warrensburg-Latham Lady Cardinals used a nine-run second inning to defeat the Clinton Lady Maroons 11-0 in a Central Illinois Conference high school softball tilt on Friday night in Clinton. 


After both teams went scoreless in the first, Nia Triimar reached on a single, and Megan Hardin and Abby Andricks walked to load the bases in the top of the second for the Cardinals. Clinton catcher Hadley Humble caught a pop-up foul ball from Audree Denton, and shortstop Avery Smith caught an infield fly ball to record the first two outs of the inning. 


With two strikes on Warrensburg-Latham nine-hitter Krissy Wilber, she connected on a single that scored Triimar and Hardin to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Cardinals exploded from there as they turned over the lineup. Emelia Coble lined a two-RBI double to make it 4-0, followed by RBI doubles from Kelsey Oakley and Triimar, making it 7-0. With Triimar at second, Hardin slammed a two-run homer over the center field fence to make it 9-0. 


Coble scored again after reaching on a double when she was brought home by Burton in the third. Hardin scored on a single from Andricks and an error by Clinton right-fielder Lainey Brewer for the final tally of 11-0. 


Brewer, Jaelynn Thomas, Humble, and Anelise Thompson all went 1-for-2 in the outing. Aliviyah Haynes pitched all five innings and allowed 11 runs on 10 hits. She struck out three, walked three, and committed three errors. 


Hardin led Warrensburg-Latham with a 3-for-3 outing, with two runs scored and two RBIs. Coble and Triimar each went 2-for-3 on the day with two runs scored and two RBIs. Andricks was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. 


Oakley went the distance for the Lady Cardinals, striking out three and allowing four hits. 


Clinton falls to 7-15 and 2-4 in the Central Illinois Conference. Warrensburg-Latham improves to 14-10 and 4-3 in CIC play. 


The Lady Maroons are back in action on Monday when they travel to Tri-Valley.
