As we wrap up 2014, Regional Radio News takes a look back at some of the top headlines from this year in Clinton and DeWitt County. Today we take a look at stories 6-10.

#10 - Fugitive Sought In Aggravated Battery, Armed Robbery Case Arrested (Aug. 13)
The public's assistance in August resulted in the arrest of a wanted fugitive.
The fugitive the Clinton Police Department was seeking the public's help in capturing turned himself in.
Regional Radio News learned Dennis L. Eveland III turned himself in after the Clinton PD issued a statement seeking information in locating Eveland. Eveland was wanted in Dewitt County on multiple arrest warrants on charges of armed robbery, and aggravated battery.
According to Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers, at approximately 2:10 pm [Aug. 13], Eveland turned himself in to the DeWitt County Jail and is in their custody.
Eveland was believed to be possibly be armed and considered dangerous.
Authorities remind residents their information on any other fugitives or other crimes can be submitted through Clinton Area Crime Stoppers by calling 217-935-3333.

#9 - Hoffman to Board Members: You're Not Smart Enough (May 2)
No top stories list would be complete without a County Board story, and only one highlights this year's list.
Several Board Members exchanged some very heated and personal words at [the May 1] DeWitt County Board meeting.
Board Member Terry Hoffman presented several questions to State's Attorney Karle Koritz regarding how the Board is moving forward regarding the Clinton Landfill. Koritz explains his answer is the same as its been in previous [meetings].

After another back and forth with the board member and the former State's Attorney, the discussion grew more personal when Hoffman referred to David Newberg and Camille Redman as quote-"not smart enough" at which point, Danny Ballenger interjected.

Redman requested Board Chair Sherrie Brown control Hoffman but Brown says she won't control a specific board member if the rest can't stay in line. Several argued Brown can't handle her job and Ballenger requested Brown resign, to which she requested the same of him.

#8 - Clinton IGA Employee Arrested For Threatening Customer (August 8)
Clinton authorities have indicated to Regional Radio News a Clinton IGA employee has been arrested for unlawful use of a weapon over a dispute with a customer.
[August 8] a verbal altercation broke out between a Clinton IGA employee and a customer over the grocery store's product.
Clinton Police arrested Jonathan Bratcher ,38, of Clinton for unlawful use of a weapon after an altercation in IGA. Bracther was transported to the DeWitt County Jail and released to corrections.
#7 - Suspicious Vehicle Spotted At Clinton School (March 21)
A suspicious vehicle spotted near a local elementary school Friday had authorities on the lookout in Clinton in late March.
Just before noon [March 21], officials at Clinton's Webster Elementary School spotted a suspicious vehicle in a neighboring park. Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers indicates the vehicle was a silver Honda with tinted windows. He says this is the second time the vehicle has been spotted at the school in recent days, and it appeared the male driver was taking pictures of students.

The Clinton Police Department plans to increase patrols around all of the community's schools in response to the incident. Clinton Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jeff Holmes, notes the district is also taking precautions. He says all of the district's buildings are on the lookout for the vehicle, and students at Webster Elementary were kept inside the building the rest of the day Friday.

School officials were unable to identify the license plate of the silver colored Honda with dark tinted windows.
#6 - Baum Recovering Following Motorcycle Accident (Sept. 6)
A Clinton businessman [spent time] in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, after a motorcycle accident in mid-August in the western United States that shattered his right leg.
Scott Baum was riding with several other Clinton residents who also were on motorcycles, in Kingman, Arizona on August 18th, when Baum took a spill and his motorcycle landed on his right leg.
The impact shattered the leg bones into many pieces. He was airlifted from Kingman to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
Doctors stabilized the leg enough for him to be flown to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, where he was admitted August 27th.
Specialists had had to perform several skin grafts on the leg.
Baum and his family own and operate the Chevrolet and Buick dealership in Clinton.

Jim Harbaugh's introduction at halftime was the big news, but Ricky Doyle helped make it an even happier homecoming for the new Michigan football coach, scoring the Wolverines' last seven points in regulation to force overtime and Michigan beat Illinois, 73-65, on Tuesday.
Joe Johnson scored 20 points with 11 rebounds as the Nets took down the Bulls 96-82 at the United Center. Brook Lopez led the team with 29 points, while Jarrett Jack chipped in 11 with five assists. Alan Anderson added 11 off the bench as Brooklyn improves to 15-and-16 with its fifth win in six contests. Mike Dunleavy led the Bulls with 23 points, while Joakim Noah recorded a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double. Pau Gasol added 10 points, seven boards and seven assists as the Bulls' seven-game winning streak ends. Chicago sits at 22-and-10.
Shea Weber's shorthanded goal 9:02 into the third period was the difference as the Predators skated to a 3-2 win over the Blues in Nashville. Weber also scored in the first period, while Gabriel Bourque lit the lamp in the second. Pekka Rinne stopped 26 shots in Nashville's fifth win in seven games. Chris Butler and T.J. Oshie had the goals for St. Louis, which has dropped five-of-six. Brian Elliott made 44 saves in the setback.

At least three potential candidates for the Chicago Bears' GM job have emerged.

For the second straight year, the Monticello Sages took on Ridgeview in the championship game of the the Monticello Holiday Hoopla, and for the second straight year, Ridgeview took home the title, defeating Monticello 65-56.
Zach Fisher chipped in with 16 points and six rebounds. Isiah Florey added ten points and three boards off the bench.
McCloud was 5 of 6 from the floor - all 3-pointers - as the junior college transfer played his most significant minutes of the season for Illinois State (9-4).

Authorities in the Dominican Republic say they have questioned Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro after a nightclub shooting in which several people were injured.
A familiar face at the DeWitt County Museum will take the reins as its leader.
Thanks to generosity from a national and local level, a couple police officers in Clinton were able to show their support for a fallen peer in New York City this past weekend.
The perception of law enforcement officials across the country are coming under a negative light in recent months and Sgt. Causer says he answers to the people of the community he has taken an oath to protect. He believes it is difficult to judge officers on one incident when there are many examples of them doing things right more than wrong.
The DeWitt County Sheriff's Department is taking on a new look.
Steve Stricker, who has battled a balky back for several years, had outpatient back surgery on Tuesday and is home recovering.

The Maroons cut a large second quarter deficit to one at the half, trailing 30-29, but Tremont raced out of the gates in the third and opened up a 50-39 lead going to the fourth and never looked back, as Clinton could not keep momentum going.

Marshall and Navy picked up wins as the bowl season continued on Tuesday. Rakeem Cato accounted for five touchdowns to lead Marshall to a 52-23 win over Northern Illinois in the inaugural Boca Raton Bowl. Cato finished his collegiate career by extending his NCAA-record streak of games with a touchdown pass to 46. Meanwhile, Austin Grebe's 24-yard field goal with 1:27 left to play lifted Navy to a 17-16 comeback win over San Diego State in the Poinsettia Bowl. Navy held on after San Diego State missed a 34-yard field goal with 20 seconds left in the fourth.

As robotics begins to take off locally, one school district is joining the parade.

(Undated) -- Kentucky remains the top team in men's college basketball. The 12-and-0 Wildcats received 30 of the 32 first-place votes to retain the number-one spot in this week's "USA Today" Coaches Poll. The top-11 went unchanged. Duke is still second, followed by Arizona, Louisville and Virginia. Wisconsin, Villanova, Gonzaga, Texas and Kansas round out the top-10. Miami, Michigan State and Butler all dropped out of the rankings, while Baylor, Northern Iowa and Colorado State jumped in.

The DeWitt County Board approved a new method of paying bills at their latest meeting.

The vacant DeWitt County State's Attorney position was filled at Thursday's DeWitt County Board Meeting.

The IHSA said Wednesday that video of 145 boys' and girls' championship games shot between 1947 and 2007 will be posted to the IHSA Archives Youtube channel on Sunday. Fans will be able to watch the videos for free.

The Crimson Tide led by 11 with under five minutes to play before a furious comeback pulled the Shockers even. Rashard Kelly scored the final four points of an 11-0 run, the last two coming off a steal with 1:20 remaining.

For the past few weeks, Clinton Schools have seen hundreds of students missing school thanks to illness.
Thursday morning, a local business will welcome in a local lawmaker.
A transformer explosion near Calvert Funeral Home in downtown Clinton Sunday morning was called in at approximately 8:30 AM. According Captain Brandon Karr, a single transformer was on fire as a result of the explosion, however, upon arrival, the fire department could not act on the fire because of live electricity.
The DeWitt County Angel Tree is joining forces with local police departments in order to provide a great Christmas for area kids.

Ohio State has said they're aware of the incident and working on collecting the details. Barrett didn't play in the Buckeyes win over Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game after suffering an injury versus Michigan and is out the rest of the season.

Three finalists are in the running for the 2014 Heisman Trophy. The list is highlighted by Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, while Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper will also make the trip to New York. Mariota led the 12-and-1 Ducks to a Pac-12 Championship by throwing for over 37-hundreds-yards, 38 touchdowns to just two interceptions. Mariota also rushed for 669 yards and 14 more scores. Gordon rushed for over 23-hundred-yards, and his 26 rushing scores led the nation. He set a then-single-game NCAA rushing record with 408 yards against Nebraska. Cooper led the top-ranked Crimson Tide with 115 catches for 1,656 yards and 14 touchdowns. The winner will be announced during Saturday's ceremony in New York.
Several noteable leaders were on hand as Judge Dan Flannell, Chief Judge of the Sixth Circuit, made opening remarks and gave a short speech in place of Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Rita Garman who was unable to attend due to illness. Eleventh Circuit Associate Judge William Workman, a fellow colleague of Koritz's from their days together in the McLean County State's Attorney's Office, also made remarks praising new Judge Koritz.

The Clinton City Council Monday night approved a preliminary study of what it would take to turn a dilapidated property on Madison Street (right) into a potential fire station.

Senior quarterback Reilly O'Toole was Illinois' honoree for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Local businesses are teaming up with a non-profit group that serves abused children this holiday season.
The Oakland Athletics made another splash in the MLB offseason. Multiple reports are saying the A's are sending third baseman Josh Donaldson to the Blue Jays for third baseman Brett Lawrie and three prospects. Oakland will get pitching prospect Sean Nolin and shortstop Franklin Barreto, who both ranked in the top-12 of the Blue Jays' top prospects heading into last season. The Athletics also get young pitcher Kendall Graveman, who made his Major League debut last season. Lawrie hit .247 with 12 home runs and made just two errors in 63 games at third base last season. Donaldson heads north after hitting 29 dingers and driving in 98 runs for the Athletics.
