The Normal West Wildcats used an eight-run second inning to rout the Urbana Tigers by a final score of 12-1 in five innings of Big 12 Conference high school baseball action in Urbana.
Mayson Aslinger was hit by a pitch, and Bryson Edwards walked to start the top of the second for Normal West. They were brought home by a single from Charlie Hanks to make it 2-0.
The Wildcats then capitalized on an Urbana error to make it 3-0, followed by a single from Jasper Pomis and a Double from Sam McCullly to make it 5-0 with two outs. Back-to-back triples from Ty Bachman and Aslinger made it 7-0 before Edwards was brought home on a walk.
The Tigers stole a run back in the home half of the inning when Malik Lawrence stole home on a passed ball to make it 8-1.
A Jayden Floyd Double scored Chase Reinhart and Jack Steidinger to grow the Normal West lead to 10-1, and Bachman singled in Floyd and Pomis from there for the final tally.
Bachman led the Wildcats with a 2-for-4 outing, including two RBIs and a run scored. Aslinger was 1-for-3 but scored twice and batted one in. Edwards was the only Normal West Batter to not record a hit; he walked twice and scored once.
Drake Rumps pitched five innings of one-run ball, allowing just two hits and striking out eight.
Alden Bridges and Curtis Kennedy recorded the lone hits for the Tigers, each with a 1-for-2 performance.
Isaac Armstrong twirled 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out one, and recorded one walk.
With the win, Normal West improves to 10-5 and 4-0 in the Big 12. Urbana falls to 2-10 and 0-4 in conference play.
