Monticello started fast and held off Prairie Central for a 9-6 win in Illini Prairie Conference high school softball action on Monday in Monticello.
Monticello jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead with a three-run first inning and a four-run second inning.
After the Lady Hawks got within 7-6 thanks to a three-run fifth inning, Monticello added two insurance runs in the sixth.
Ali Weidner was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to pace the Monticello offense. Madison Highland was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Highland went five innings in circle, allowing four runs on ten hits with a walk and striking out two.
Cassidee Stoffel was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Isabella Beery was 3-for-4 with a double for Monticello.
Stoffel struck out four in two scoreless innings of relief.
