Blue Ridge Schools Introducing 'Parents Academy'

For many parents, trying to understand the concepts of the common core can be challenging and causes many to not be able to give their kids help when they need it.

To bring more understanding into the home, Blue Ridge schools are holding a special first of it's kind event they're calling a parents academy. Superintendent Susan Wilson says they will have a curriculum expert at ISU on hand to speak and answer questions.

Parents will have the opportunity to speak with teachers of the various grade levels. According to Wilson, teachers will give parents practical ways to help their students with their math homework.

Wilson says the parents academy will tackle several issues at other sessions but they felt math homework was a good one to start with.

Wilson indicates they are finding the parents of Blue Ridge students want to be involved in their students academic success and to be able to help their students when they need it.

The first academy is Thursday September 1 at 5:30 pm with dinner to start and then a presentation to begin at 6 pm. It is free for parents pre-K to 12th grade. It will be at Schneider School.
