The two candidates running for the U.S. Senate in Illinois shared stances on farm and other issues at a forum outside of Bloomington Wednesday.
Representative Tammy Duckworth used opening remarks to signal support for the federal Renewable Fuels Standard, a nationwide rule on food labeling, and improving trade with Cuba. Duckworth also addressed a question on federal regulation, and in particular the Environmental Protection Agency's waters of the United States rule;
Duckworth, a member of the U-S House from Hoffman Estates, and incumbent U-S Senator Mark Kirk of Highland Park will face off in November. Kirk also addressed the issue of federal regulation and its impact on agriculture;
Kirk indicated his support for a tax incentive on major capital purchases such as farm equipment and the national food labeling standard recently passed by Congress.
The Illinois Agricultural Roundtable sponsored the forum.
